Introduction

Welcome to Brunch with Bookwyrms! We are excited to have you join us on our journey for these monthly sessions where we hold a virtual book club brunch in podcast form.

Hi everyone, I’m Chelsee. Growing up, on weekends I would spend hours reading and would often finish a novel in one sitting. I went to the midnight release parties for many of the Harry Potter books. A book-related fact about me is that when I was in college, the librarian knew me by name because I checked out ten books every week. My favorite genres are YA fantasy and science fiction. My favorite author is Brandon Sanderson – I have been reading his books ever since 2006. How first published book was Elantra’s in 2005, so I feel like I’ve been able to watch his writing progress over the years.

And my name is Adam. I have been an avid reader for as long as I can recall. When I was a child my parents would have to hide the flashlight so I didn’t steal it to read under my bedcovers in the middle of the night (flashlight batteries didn’t last nearly as long before LEDs, and I got in trouble for constantly running batteries flat). A book-related fact about me is that I first read The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien when I was just 7 years old, and I now re-read that and the Lord of the Rings trilogy every year. My favorite genres are primarily epic fantasy and some science fiction. My favorite author is Tolkien, but I definitely was not around when he was first published like Chelsee was with Sanderson!

We decided to start this podcast to share our love of reading with you all, and to help facilitate book discussions between the two of us. We recently hosted a book discussion on another podcast, Views from the World Tree, and we really enjoyed the way it made us think deeply about the book we read, so we wanted to do more of that.

We both have quite busy lives, so for now our plan is to spend a month reading the same book and then come together once a month to talk about what we’ve read.

We will announce upcoming books on social media as well as here on the blog so that you, our listeners, can follow along with us. But be careful because:

it’s a dangerous business, (reading) – you step (into a book), and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to!

J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings (some words changed)

Happy reading!
